Mary Mother of Compassion Parish

Foundation of the Parish

The Parish came into existence in the year 2011 when the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales, Guwahati Province, were invited by Most Rev. Victor Lyngdoh DD, the then Bishop of Nongstoiñ Diocese, to begin their Renewal Ministry.

The foundation process for erecting the Holy Redeemer Renewal Centre at Mawkhlam village under Nongstoiñ Parish began in February 2010. Rev. Fr. Joby Mathew MSFS started conducting monthly Bible Conventions, coming from Holy Redeemer Renewal Centre, Umroi.

In April 2011, during Holy Week, Rev. Fr. Joby Mathew MSFS came to reside in the village. Subsequently, the Bishop entrusted him with the pastoral care of three villages: Mawkhlam, Ladnongsba and Mawkynjoiñ-Mawkynthaitniangbri.

Before the official erection of the Parish and the installation of the first Parish Priest, five additional villages belonging to Mawlangdep Parish were added: Riangpoit, Mawpun, Nongthymmai, Nongmynraw and Risiang.
